THE LEGEND

The Legend of Jack the Ripper is of images and stories of the "Autumn of Terror" of 1888, when in Whitechapel, in
the East End of London, a gent, in a top hat and long dark coat and carrying a black, shiny bag, emerged from the
fog onto the streets, dimly lit by gas-lamps, and, with a sharp knife, murdered five victims - all of them prostitutes -
mutilating the bodies of four of them. The murderer was never caught, his identity is unknown and is only known by
the infamous nickname which he signed correspondence sent to the police, press and others - JACK THE RIPPER.
